The one thing that I truly like about Grandmother is her sharing the Catholic faith with me. Without faith, I would have a difficult time living in this world. I would be a sitting duck because life is full of uncertainty and I would never know what might hit on me next. Without spiritual protection is like going into battle without armor, helmet, shield, and sword. Getting to know God, I have where to fall back on. I know where to rely on and turn to during difficult times. God is the light that shines into my darkest hours.
I recalled when Grandmother first visited us in Houston. She was always enthusiastic about God and wanted all of us to attend the Sunday Mass. At the time I felt pressured and heavily resisted against going to church. Both my mom and grandmother had to either force or bribe me to go. As a child I felt that mass was long and boring and wished it would end soon. Most of all I did not see how Catholicism is relevant to me. I did not care much about it until later in life.
Even in high school I did develop an interest in Christianity and joined bible study gatherings, I still did not experience its significance. It was not until when I graduated from college and started working did I began to “taste” it. On several occasions I found myself not knowing what to do. I would often share them with my mom and grandmother. Grandmother would always say “leave it to God… God will set things right for you.” Amazingly things turned out well. I was so encouraged and decided to reverted back to Catholic Church. I became very engaged in studying bible and active in various church events. Going deeper into the Bible, I realized that the Church’s teachings are so relevant to everyday life. And I just want to fully embrace God and to confirm my faith with all.
Although many great individuals have helped me grown in faith, the person I truly would like to thank is my grandmother who introduced Christianity to me. Now Christianity is a part of me and is what I cannot live without. I have desire to spread and share the Gospel with others. I would like to say “Thank you Grandmother.”
