收到一張卡片,上面寫著Roy Lessin的詩:

As you wait upon the Lord,
you learn to see things from
His perspective,
move at His pace, and
function under His directives.
Waiting times are growing times
and learning times.
As you quiet your heart,
you enter His peace;
as you sense your weakness,
you receive His strength;
as you lay down your will,
you hear His calling –
when you mount up,
you are being lifted by
he wind of His spirit …
when you move ahead,
you are sensitive to His timing …
when you act,
you give yourself only to the things
He has asked you to do.

翻譯一下,大概是:

當你靜候上主的時候,
你學會從祂的角度看事情。
以祂要的速度行動,
在祂的帶領下做一切事情。
靜候上主的時間是成長的時間,
也是學習的時間。
當你把心靜下來,
你會進入祂的平安;
當你意識到你的軟弱,
你會獲得祂的力量;
當你放下自己的意願時,
你將聽到祂的聲音。
當你登高的時候,
你會被祂聖神的風托起來。
當你向前走的時候,
你會意識到祂要的時間。
當你要行動的時候,
你只願意做祂要你做的事。

後記:

從小就只知道「 等 」 是 “wait”, “wait”是「等」。剛來美國時, 還曾納悶為何餐館的侍者“waiter”，為何叫他們「等的人」?
現在才知道關鍵在「候」這個字。而且中西方不約而同的把 “wait” 和「候」用在類似的地方, 中文的等候, 侍候, 全在“wait”這個字裡。
想想也有道理, 位卑的人要等在一旁, 侍候位尊的人, 只在該行動時行動。
我們就該靜靜的侍立在天主旁, 祂不要我們動時, 我們不該擅自作主的隨便行動。而祂要我們做什麼時, 我們要全力以赴, 無所保留。
侍候的好包括侍候的行動與侍候的時機都如主人的心願。都做到了才能稱為貼心的侍候。不斷地練習, 我們才有可能成為好的侍者, 好的僕人。
